This novel is the 21st volume in Pratchett's comic discworld fantasy series.

The main characters in this novel are Commander Vimes, of the Ankh-Morpork city watch, and the members of his watch. Lord Vetinari also makes becomes involved, taking a part in the action as the major character.

When a new island appears between Ankh-Morpork and the Klatchian Empire, then it inevitably leads to a confrontation between the two countries. When the diplomat, that Klatch sends to Ankh-Morpork to resolve the issue, is nearly assassinated the Commander Vimes must find out who is behind the plot. With the help of his trusted watchmen, he must solve this crime and stop the war, that seems a foregone conclusion.

This is a very funny book, like most of the discworld novels. The great characters that fill the novel are so well created that they are a pleasure to read about. A very enjoyable romp that keeps the reader enthralled until the end.

Overall this book is really great fun. 8 out of 10.
